Star Explorers is a C4 wormhole corporation built for mature pilots looking for a long term home in Anoikis. We believe strongly in the RL > EVE equation and run our corporation less as an entity with rules and regulations you must bend to but rather the strong foundation upon which you can stand to maximize your enjoyment of New Eden. You and your fellow Star Explorers can freely engage in all aspects of wormhole life that interest you with the knowledge that your corpmates and alliance partners will have your back.
That is the opening paragraph of our recruitment post. I think it sums up our corporation nicely. The truth is, it is basically the same principles for our alliance. I treat our member corporations with the same respect for their individual culture and freedom to operate to maximize the enjoyment of their members.
I wasn't going to post about "it" because I simply don't normally announce alliance membership changes on this blog. But this one is rather unique and dovetails nicely with the above conversation around running a corporation and alliance.
Later tonight, the Semper Ubi Sub Ubi corporation is joining Reckoning Star Alliance. It is the corporation operated by Longinius Spear, who was, until recently, a member of Isogen 5 and who is also the host of the Down the Pipe podcast and blogger at http://invadingyourhole.blogspot.com/. Honestly, I didn't really think that anything would come of my tweet to Spear after reading his blog post about leaving Isogen 5. We've had, from my perspective, an interesting set of encounters with Isogen 5 which put Spear on my radar.
As a notable wormhole PvP group, I knew of them before our first encounter in our old C2 home. Since then we've run into them a few time in our C4 home. The first encounter was one of my favorite EVE experiences to date. Started with a C5 connection to our C2 and a cloaky Proteus and ended with us whelping some T1 ships into them as they shipped down and then with a 1v1 between me and their CEO. That was Isogen 5 and Bronya Boga, host of Down the Pipe with Longinius. I won the 1v1. It doesn't look 1v1 on the killboard because of all the shenanigans we had before the fight (he fought another of our members, then repped up and one of his own corp had webbed him for laughs I think). But I will never forget that fight. For someone that would rarely PvP like myself, it was a huge moment. So while we may be just a blip on their radar, I've always felt a strange connection to Isogen 5 and by extension, Bronya and Spear. From his blog posts, I've been a big fan of Spear and his playstyle and felt, to a certain degree, that we may still be too small, too young, or too something that wouldn't fit well with his personality. But an email from one of our members, who is also a podcaster, started the ball rolling.
Through our conversation last night, the interesting thing for me, other than having to get used to hearing his voice on our comms and remember that I wasn't listening to a podcast, was that our alliance structure, the one that mirrors my corporation philosophy, was an important piece of why bringing his corporation into the alliance could work. And after reading the posts from Rixx on the subject, I'm quite proud of the structure that we've built. I didn't need to be apologetic about the corporation, thinking things like: We are too small. We are too unorganized. We don't "do" anything. None of these are what defines us, and none of them, ultimately are what matters. I'm proud of the fact that we are a corporation for mature players whose real lives sometimes get in the way of a video game. We are, as a result, a closer group as a result. We share common experiences and have fostered a strong level of trust and respect between players, some of who are living on the other side of the world from each other, but still share a mutual love for this game.
I'm excited about bringing Spear on board. Oddly, it has strengthened my resolve in what we do and how we operate as a corporation and alliance. He is a content creator and as I've said before, everyone in wormhole space needs to be content creators. Whether this works long term or not with Spear, we are going to continue on our path being who we are.
If that's appealing to you too, I look forward to hearing from you
