It was our good fortune that we came across your little corner of the galaxy recently. While a class 1 wormhole with a black hole is not normally desirable, you had moved in and erected a tower to claim your territory. We watched your corp member in his Venture mining frigate and Falcon recon closely and waited for him to go dormant and then ran a dozen sleeper sites that were obviously cluttering up your system. We believe that a clean system is a good system and hope you do also. But it was your tower that ended up being the most interesting for you had taken the unusual path of putting online a minimum of defenses.
Two cruise missile batteries, two warp disruptors and one large artillery.
That was it. Perhaps it is your members dedication to your corporation that would win the day when it came to a fight but your tower presented too good of a target to simply fly by. One of our members wanted to test, in practice, the theory that a small ship could avoid most of the damage from a cruise missile battery. You see, we don't get many cruise missile batteries in wormhole space presumably for this very reason. So he jumped into his interceptor and set out for your tower. Upon arrival he reported back that he was not being shot so we assumed this was because of your benevolence in instructing your tower to only attack when shot first. We told him to engage. He did and reported again that he was not being attacked. I then jumped into my assault frigate and set out to see this most unusual tower for myself. Upon arrival, I noticed immediately that the cruise missile batteries were only anchored. They had not been brought online. Only the artillery and the disruptors were ready for combat except that they refused to fire at us. Maybe the gun had no ammo but why the disruptors did not attack was a mystery.
From CEO to CEO, I need to say that this is truly disheartening. As a corp, we take great pride in assisting new players with their first steps in the EVE universe but to see a tower that had basically no defenses and then to find that what defenses it did have were either offline or not configured to attack was truly troublesome. I fear that you have ventured into this unknown without the necessary information to make your venture successful.
We shot your tower that night.
We are, in addition to being helpful to new players, also are opportunistic. If you had set your tower to not fight, it was a distinct possibility that you had not filled your tower with the necessary materials for it to reinforce itself when attacked to give you time to defend. We had to see for ourselves if this was the case.
I was, ultimately, glad to see that you had, at least, done that much to defend your investment. We considered returning after your timer had expired to finish the job but a variety of circumstances made that more difficult than we desired to make that effort. I am sending you this because I hope that you will take this as a learning opportunity. Small towers are too small and are not well suited for wormhole occupation. The effort to attack them is minimal even with excellent defenses. Your defenses were far from excellent and ultimately non-existent. If you remain with this configuration, it will not be the last time your defenses are tested and others may not be so uninclined to finish the job.
If you would like some assistance in making a better home for your corporation, feel free to contact me. I'd be happy to offer any advice I could. In the meantime, thank you for being the content our corporation created that night.
