Recently, we decided to try our hand at a fleet running a C4 anomaly. Being a blog reader myself, I recalled an older post from wormhole resident, Von Keigai detailing their fleet composition. We modeled ours after that being that we had a number of pilots that could fly Ravens and my co-founder and I took up positions in the Osprey. After realizing we were missing certain modules, getting a second Osprey through a low-sec gatecamp, and otherwise getting organized, we had what we needed to run the site...or so we thought.
I made some mistakes in how we warped in the fleet and set up our reps that ended up with the loss of an Osprey. In the two Raven, two Osprey configuration, the Ravens are actually acting as a third logistics ship and those reps were needed when the logistics started taking fire.
Seeing as how we had to bring in modules just to get the two we had working, we found a suitable alternative using a remote rep shield based Dominix in place of the Osprey. While this is an obvious upgrade, it was not originally in my suggestions due to the extended training it takes to fly such as ship compared to the T1 logistics cruiser.
As it happens, the makeup of our pilots in the C4 is advanced enough that the Dominix as logistics will be a far more effective choice even though it requires more training and puts more ISK on the field during operations. We do not run fleets with open holes and while a random connection is, of course, random, we take as many precautions as we can to ensure the safety of our PvE operations. I'm looking forward to our next attempt when we can coordinate schedules and after a couple members have trained up the Dominix to spec.
I have yet to do extensive site running solo yet but I have some interesting developments in progress on that front and hope to report back soon and share some of my findings. I will say though that it is looking like I may have found a perfect use for the Gnosis which may be the first time that has been said without the word bait in the same sentance...oh.
